School Governor (Co-opted - No parent election)

Being a governor at Heatherside Infant School means joining a warm, committed, and forward‑thinking team that plays a vital role in shaping the experience of our youngest learners.

As a co‑opted governor, you’ll help set the school’s strategic direction, support and challenge leaders, and ensure that every pound and every decision has a positive impact on the children who walk through our doors each day.

You’ll take part in board meetings, visit the school to see learning in action, work with fellow governors on areas such as curriculum, inclusion, safeguarding, finance, and school improvement, and contribute your professional perspective to help the school thrive. It’s an opportunity to apply your skills to real problems, influence decisions that matter, and support a school that has high aspirations for its pupils and staff. Above all, you’ll be part of a team that is compassionate, ambitious, and deeply committed to doing the right thing for children.

What skills do I need?

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and experiences, you do not need to have worked in education to be an excellent governor. What matters most is a commitment to helping Heatherside remain a safe, inclusive, and aspirational school for every child.

We are particularly interested in volunteers with skills in areas such as:

• Education - Experience in KS1 and EYS an advantage, but any educational background is welcome.
• Safeguarding — experience in safeguarding, welfare, or child‑focused environments.
• Risk management — especially in organisational, financial, or operational contexts.
• Grants, community partnerships, or fundraising — helping the school identify opportunities and strengthen its long-term sustainability.
• Entrepreneurship or innovation — individuals who can bring fresh thinking, constructive challenge, and strategic creativity.

You should be willing to read papers, attend meetings, ask thoughtful questions, and work collaboratively. Training is provided, and you will be supported every step of the way.
