How Do We Help with DBS Checks?

A DBS check may be needed for certain jobs or voluntary work, e.g. working with children, in healthcare or with vulnerable adults.

Basingstoke Voluntary Action offers a comprehensive online DBS checking service to the community and voluntary service. (If you are a commercial company please contact us to discuss whether we have capacity to help you).

How much does a DBS check cost?

Basic Check

All basic checks, including those for volunteer applications, are £18.00 direct from DBS via this link. These cost £29.00 via BVA.

Standard Check

BVA charges for these are: for Volunteers – £11.00, and for Paid Staff – £29.00

Enhanced Check

BVA charges for these are: for Volunteers – £11.00, and for Paid Staff – £58.00


From 1st June 2023 BVA prices for DBS checks will slightly increase as follows. This is in response to additional costs from our software provider that we are having to pass on.

Enhanced Check               Staff £59              Volunteer £13

Standard Check                Staff £30              Volunteer £13

Basic check staff and volunteers  £30 (please note these can also be obtained direct from DBS for £18)

One-off Registration fee for new account £17
