Camrose has been operating as Basingstoke’s only day centre for homeless people since 2008. We are supported by generous and faithful individuals and communities across our borough and beyond.

We are entering a new phase of growth. We are now open six days a week, supporting people experiencing homelessness, rough sleeping, social exclusion and poverty with warmth, food, friendship, practical advice and a calm, safe space. As one client told us, “You have been an absolute lifeline for me.”

We are seeking a confident, experienced and strategically minded Chair to lead our Board through this next chapter. Someone who brings charity governance experience, visible leadership, and the ability to mobilise trustees, volunteers and partners behind a shared strategic direction.

This is a role for a leader who can combine humanity with rigour; someone who understands that small charities thrive when governance is strong, relationships are nurtured, and strategic projects are delivered with discipline.

The Chair ensures the charity is well‑governed, strategically focused and able to deliver its mission effectively. You will work closely with the Centre Manager and trustees to provide leadership, oversight and direction.

Core Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Lead the Board to set, refine and deliver Camrose’s strategic priorities.
  • Ensure the organisation remains focused on its mission and manages risk effectively.
  • Champion organisational development as we expand to six days a week

Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure Camrose complies with charity law, company law and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain strong governance processes, clear delegation and effective decision‑making.

People & Culture

  • Model inclusive, compassionate leadership that reflects our values.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as an ambassador for Camrose across Basingstoke and Deane.
  • Strengthen relationships with partners, funders, faith groups, local businesses and community organisations.

Driving Strategic Projects

  • Mobilise trustees and volunteers behind key initiatives, ensuring momentum and delivery.
  • Support the Centre Manager and future Project Lead to implement the new strategy.
