Hart's Countryside Service is seeking keen volunteers who are interested in taking part in practical management tasks on countryside sites.

As a practical management volunteer you will spend time outdoors learning how and why our sites are managed, whilst developing new practical habitat management skills. It is a great opportunity to explore what’s on your doorstep and meet new people. The majority of this work is physical, for example cutting down invasive plants, scrub management and gorse. Volunteers at all levels of fitness are encouraged to join us, you can stay for as long as you wish and work at your own pace.   

Your contribution will be invaluable in helping us to maintain a mosaic of habitats across the district. Without this management, some of the species that you will see on site would disappear completely.

The role includes:

  • Removing invasive plants and encroaching scrub
  • Team working
  • Using tools such as handsaws and loppers    

Training and equipment will be provided.  

What skills do I need?

  • Able to work as part of a team
  • Ability to follow instruction
  • Moderate level of fitness 
  • Will work with the Ranger team to meet the objectives of the task
  • Work professionally and considerately
  • Will follow the applicable Hart District Council Policies  e.g. Health and Safety (Risk Assessments) and Best Practice at all times

  • Age restrictions
    16+
  • Current Driving Licence
    Though not limiting, the ability to transport yourself (either through public transport or in your own vehicle) might be an advantage in this role.
