Are you a good communicator? Interested in helping your local community? If so, could you join our team of home-based Duty Officers? We operate a voluntary driver scheme to take local people to their medical appointments when otherwise they would be unable to get there. Our duty officers take the telephone calls from our clients and organise a suitable driver to transport them to their appointment.
The duty officer takes calls between 9am & 12.45pm Mon to Fri plus some Mondays 2pm - 5pm, logging the request and noting the time, date and place of the appointment. They then contact a suitable driver, establish their availability and confirm to the client that the appointment has been made.
Incoming client calls are diverted to the coordinator's phone (landline or mobile) and may be directed to voicemail if the coordinator is temporarily unavailable. It's all very flexible.
We are looking for volunteers who can help with a couple of shifts per month on a completely flexible basis (rota is organised a month in advance) although you're always welcome to do more.
As long as you can chat, use the phone and write appointments down in a diary - we'd love to hear from you.
Clear speaking voice.
Like to chat.
Available to volunteer a couple of days a month.
