Turning Miles into Meaning at the Destination Basingstoke Half Marathon
Running is great for your physical health – but it’s even more powerful when you do it together.
We are inviting Basingstoke charities, community groups and individuals to sign up for the Destination Basingstoke Phillips Law Half Marathon, 10K and 5K. This much-loved local event is about more than crossing the finish line – it’s about coming together to support good causes and strengthen community spirit.
Training as a team can make all the difference. Whether you’re running with colleagues, friends or fellow supporters of a charity, sharing the journey helps build motivation and confidence. Those early training sessions, encouraging words along the way and the shared sense of achievement on race day all help turn a personal challenge into a collective success.
To make it even easier for charities to get involved, a special Charity Team Offer is available. Groups of 5 to 30 runners can sign up at a reduced rate of just £25 per person, helping to keep costs low while maximising fundraising. It’s a brilliant way to raise awareness, generate vital funds and bring people together for a common goal. Email info@destinationbasingstoke.co.uk
If you’re new to running, there’s plenty of guidance to help you get started. The official training programme, created by Race Director Mike Gratton, begins with an eight-week fitness plan designed to build confidence and establish a routine. Runners can then progress to a 12-week half marathon plan or an eight-week 10K plan, depending on their goals.
The advice is simple: build up gradually and allow time for rest and recovery. Even experienced runners can risk injury by doing too much too soon, so pacing yourself is key.
There’s also flexibility to suit different abilities. Whether your aim is simply to complete the distance, improve your time or achieve a personal best, there’s a training level for everyone. Most importantly, week one is about getting started – taking that first step and building a habit.
By taking part, you’re not just improving your own wellbeing – you’re making a difference to others. So why not sign up, gather a team and turn your miles into impact? If you are not a runner you can still take part as a volunteer – https://www.destinationbasingstoke.co.uk/get-involved/
