This years carnival is taking place on Saturday June 20th and this year the theme is Toys Come Alive! This event brings the whole community together, providing something for everyone. There will be traditional games, craft stalls, exhibitions, displays, food stalls and of course the carnival parade bringing the theme to life. The volunteers who give their time, ensure that this event is fun for everyone. There are all sorts of roles:

  • Helping with the provision of tea & cakes - Teas will be served in the Pavilion Tea Room. We will need help in the morning to set up and then in the afternoon to serve visitors and keep the area tidy and well stocked.
  • Running one of the traditional games stalls - Splat the Rat, Bean Bag Toss, Coconut Shy
  • Gate Marshal at one of the entrances - you will be guiding people to the right place and taking entrance fees by cash or card.
  • Road Marshal - While the carnival procession is happening (12:00 - 12:30), You will be manning the barriers at the road closure points and redirecting traffic or allowing residents access. You will be communicating other marshals via walkie talkie. 
  • Set up and/or break down of Carnival site - Setting up takes place on Friday 19th June. we need volunteers during the afternoon and or evening. You will be setting up the carnival site, the stalls, marquees, seating areas, arena, security fencing and the traditional games.  Break down happens from 4.30pm on Saturday 20th and involves taking everything down and restoring the site to its previous state.

These roles are not suitable for anyone under the age of 18 years

What skills do I need?

  • Good communicator with adults and children, if at the road barriers, you need to be able to communicate firmly and calmy.
  • If you are running a stall, you will be handling cash so will need to be numerate.
  • If involved in the set up or break down, you will need to be fairly fit.
