URGENTLY NEEDED - to start ASAP

Interested in giving something back to the community?

We are a voluntary support group for people with Mental Health issues and meet once a week on a Monday afternoon in the Farnborough Council Offices. We are looking for someone to help facilitate the group during our meeting plus once a month when we take the group on an outing. There will also be some research/admin to do, so having the Internet would be advantageous.

The Role

As an assistant facilitator, you would help with the running of SUGS (Service Users Group Support) - a voluntary Mental Health group. We meet in Farnborough every Monday afternoon (except bank holidays), between the hours of 1300 and 1630. We also have a monthly trip out, normally on the last Wednesday of each month, which usually lasts the whole day.

The role would require you to be present at the meeting between the above hours (except for holidays and pre-arranged appointments, where possible). After covering items on the Agenda, we talk to each member in turn and make notes in our Confidential Book, so note taking would be required. Our members experience a wide range of conditions and needs, so our job is to offer help and support. For anything we are unable to assist with ourselves, we will signpost them to the appropriate authorities.

 Benefits and Support:

SUGS will cover your weekly expenses plus pay for you to attend our monthly trip. We like to vary our excursions as much as possible, to offer the group a variety of places to visit. During the winter months, we will choose somewhere local and in the summer months, we venture further afield, always including one coastal trip, eg Bournemouth, Southsea, Little Hampron. Our transportation for these trips is provided by Rushmoor Voluntary Services.

We are a very friendly and relatively informal group, although we do take our members' problems very seriously. It is sometimes necessary to follow up with a telephone call during the week or on occasions, accompany them to appointments etc, where we would always adhere to our health and safety rules.

If you would be interested in hearing more about this position, please telephone me on 07702 310412 and I will be pleased to answer any queries you may have.

What skills do I need?

It would be advantageous if you have prior experience of working/dealing with people who suffer with their mental health, although full training will be given.

The key qualities you will require are to be:

  •  a good listener
  •  compassionate,
  •  non-judgemental
  •  patient.

Experience not essential, as training will be given to the suitable candidate.

Not essential but a car would be useful.
