This role entails helping us organise transport to essential medical appointments for those who live in Hartley Wintney, Heckfield, Mattingley and Winchfield and who have no transport of their own and who cannot afford, for example, a taxi fare of £50 to get to and from the North Hampshire Hospital in Basingstoke.
You will take calls from our dedicated mobile telephone number for a week. You will then find one of our volunteer drivers to take callers to their essential medical appointment. Some Duty Officers use a WhatsApp Group to find drivers and others call them on their home or mobile telephone numbers. In the average week our Duty Officers are organising around 10 trips.
Clients are used to leaving messages, because they understand that our Duty Officers cannot be tied to the telephone all day. They may have to take children to and from school, shop, attend a regular leisure activity or just pop next door for a cup of tea and a chat. So, no need for this role to interfere with day to day life.
No special skills are required. Full training is provided and new recruits can shadow one of the existing team, to ease them into the role.
