As Chair of Trustees for The Yateley Society, you’ll guide a committed team to protect and promote the unique character of the parish of Yateley, Frogmore and Darby Green. You’ll oversee the Society’s direction, ensure good governance, and represent its voice in the wider community.

It’s a role for someone who sees the value in local history, enjoys thoughtful planning, and wants to help a volunteer-led charity thrive. This is your chance to leave a lasting mark — not just on papers and policies, but on the place we call home.

The role of Chair of The Yateley Society will enable you to be part of something bigger: a trusted voice that has helped shape Yateley for four decades. If you value continuity, community, and thoughtful leadership, this is your chance to carry forward a story that still has much to say.

The role will be partially home-based but there will be meetings and events both indoors and outside, in and around Yateley, Frogmore and Darby Green.

What skills do I need?

  • Strategic Thinking – Sees the bigger picture and helps steer the Society’s long-term priorities with clarity and purpose.
  • Leadership & Facilitation – Confident leading meetings, encouraging participation, and building consensus among a small team.
  • Governance Knowledge – Understands charity law, the Society’s constitution, and ensures decisions are made responsibly.
  • Organisational Ability – Keeps meetings, agendas, and follow-ups on track, while planning ahead for succession and Society milestones.
  • Community Engagement – Represents the Society with credibility, connecting with members, local partners, and the wider public.
  • Relationship Building – Builds strong links with other local groups, societies, and community bodies — recognising that collaboration is key.
  • Communication Skills – A clear, calm communicator who listens well, speaks with respect, and brings people along.
  • Volunteer Sensibility – Appreciates that everyone is giving their time freely, and leads with empathy, encouragement, and patience.
  • Collaborative Spirit – Works closely with trustees, the Secretary, and Treasurer as a team, not a hierarchy — helping each other do good work.
