Taking Pudsey Bear on His First RoundBritain Voyage

Between May and August 2026, Pudsey Bear will embark on his first-ever round‑Britain voyage, sailing alongside Jonathan Brewin and the crew of Big Bear on a 2,200‑nautical‑mile journey around the UK coastline. The voyage will visit around 35 coastal communities, raising vital funds and awareness for BBC Children in Need, with a particular focus on children’s mental health.

Big Bear Voyage 2026 is driven by a simple belief: every child deserves to feel safe, supported and able to thrive. Today, one in five children in the UK lives with a mental health challenge. Through a nationwide network of funded projects, BBC Children in Need provides crucial early intervention, offering counselling, safe spaces and trusted adult relationships that help children rebuild confidence, resilience and hope.

With a fundraising target of £70,000, the voyage aims to directly support this work, with 100% of donations going to BBC Children in Need.

This journey marks a historic first for Pudsey Bear, the charity’s iconic mascot, as he visits all four nations of the UK – England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland – by sea. Along the way, Pudsey and the crew will host community events, meet local supporters and help spark conversations about mental health and wellbeing.

For many children and families, meeting Pudsey is a joyful and memorable experience. His presence brings the charity’s mission to life and reinforces a powerful message: no child should ever feel alone.

Jonathan Brewin explained the motivation behind the challenge: “This year I turn 70. Rather than marking the occasion quietly, my wife Jackie and I decided to do something more purposeful by raising £70,000 for the charity that achieves so much for youngsters facing challenges.”

Emma Douglas, Supporter Experience Manager at BBC Children in Need, added: “We’re incredibly inspired by the commitment behind the Big Bear Voyage. Celebrating Jonathan’s 70th birthday with such an ambitious challenge, while aiming to raise £70,000, will help change young lives across the UK.”
