Are you passionate about mental health? Do you want to build skills to recognise the signs and symptoms of poor mental health, and to provide people with first response support to signpost them to the correct professional help?

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council is piloting the introduction of Mental Health First Aid courses, delivered by MHFA England, for adults working within a charity/ community organisation or sport and leisure. Each course is charged at no cost and will consist of four sessions. These will be delivered virtually over four evenings. Spaces on each pilot course will be limited, details as follows:

Youth Mental Health First Aid (course content aimed towards adults supporting younger people). Online 6.30pm to 9pm on

If you are interested but are unable to attend the dates, please register your interest by emailing Pip Northam (details below).

If you are interested and are able to attend all four sessions of your preferred course (adult or youth); please email Pip Northam with a short description to answer each of the following questions*:

  • Why are you interested in becoming a Mental Health First Aider?
  • What organisation do you work/volunteer for and what is your role?
  • How do you think the course will help you in your role?

*Emails must be received on or before Sunday 17 March 2024. Spaces on this course are limited; registering does not guarantee your admission. If the course is oversubscribed, your answers to these questions will determine the priority of your admission to the course; you might be contacted for more information in this instance. If your application is unsuccessful, you may be given priority awareness of future courses, providing the pilot is successful. Future courses may incur a cost.
