Congratulations to our latest £250 winner, a Basingstoke NeighbourCare volunteer who kindly donated their winnings to Neighbourcare as the cause they’re supporting. Here’s what they had to say about the B&D Community Lottery:
- Why are you supporting your chosen good cause?
I have been a volunteer driver for Neighbourcare for 3 years. I was aware of the good work they do supporting older people in the borough because a friend of mine was a volunteer with them, but until I retired I had no time to give. Helping older people get out to their medical appointments, or to go shopping, is rewarding on a number of levels – they are always very grateful for our help, and I admire many of them for refusing to let their physical issues get it the way of what they want to do. Many of them say they would not be able to go out at all if it wasn’t for the help we provide.
- Where did you hear about the lottery?
I heard about the Community Lottery when I became Trustee Treasurer for the charity and learnt it was a small but regular source of income. I decided as well as donating my time, I would make a small regular financial contribution by playing the lottery.
- What does winning mean to you?
When I started playing, it was always with the intention that if I won anything I would donate it to Neighbourcare. I have won occasional “free tickets” before, but this is my first cash win and I’m very happy for it to be used for the benefit of Neighbourcare’s clients.
- Would you recommend others to sign up to the lottery and why?
Yes I would. It is only a pound a ticket per week, and very easy to sign up online. I don’t even have to remember to do it every week as you can sign up for a year at a time. A small amount to one person soon starts adding up if a lot of people’s pounds get added together! We at Neighbourcare are very grateful for all support, no matter how small each individual contribution is.
