Monday 1 June to Sunday 7 June, marks Volunteers’ Week 2026 – a nationwide celebration dedicated to recognising the vital contribution volunteers make to communities across the UK. First established in 1984, Volunteers’ Week highlights the generosity, compassion and commitment of people who give their time freely to support others, while also encouraging new volunteers to step forward and get involved.

To help spread the word about volunteering and make it easier for local residents to explore opportunities, Basingstoke Voluntary Action (BVA) will be hosting three Community Volunteer Hubs throughout the week. These friendly, relaxed drop-in sessions are designed for anyone curious about volunteering, whether you have a few hours to spare each week or are simply interested in learning more about what’s available locally.

At each hub, visitors can chat informally with knowledgeable staff and find out about a wide range of roles across charities, community groups and local organisations. Opportunities can include helping at community events, supporting local services, offering befriending support, or sharing specialist skills. There is absolutely no pressure to sign up on the day – the aim is simply to provide a welcoming space where people can ask questions, gain inspiration and consider how volunteering might fit into their lives.

Community Volunteer Hub details are as follows:

  • Tuesday 2 June, 2.00pm – 4.00pm, Chineham Library, Chineham District Centre, Chineham, Basingstoke, RG24 8BQ
  • Wednesday 3 June, 11.00am – 1.00pm, Café in the Park, Beggarwood, Broadmere Road, Basingstoke, RG22 4AQ
  • Thursday 4 June, 10.30am – 12.30pm, The Orchard, White Hart Lane, Basingstoke, RG21 4AF

There is no need to book an appointment – simply pop along for a chat at a time that suits you.

Volunteers’ Week is not only about recognising those who already give their time; it’s also about celebrating the impact volunteering has on strengthening communities and improving wellbeing. Many people find that volunteering helps them build confidence, learn new skills, meet new people and feel more connected to where they live.

Keep an eye on BVA’s social media channels for more Volunteers’ Week stories, highlights and inspiration throughout the week.

If you’re unable to attend one of these sessions, there’s still plenty of opportunity to get involved. BVA runs Community Volunteer Hubs throughout the year, giving more chances to explore volunteering in a way that suits you.
