Basingstoke Voluntary Action Announces New Chair of Trustees

Basingstoke Voluntary Action (BVA) is pleased to announce a change in the leadership of its Board of Trustees. Francesca Maritan-Hawkins has been appointed as the new Chair, succeeding Neil Morrow, who will continue to act as a Trustee for BVA.

Neil has acted as Chair with distinction, guiding BVA through a period of significant development and change. His leadership has been instrumental in strengthening the organisation’s strategic direction and supporting the team through both opportunities and challenges.

Reflecting on his time as Chair, Neil shared “It has been a genuine privilege to chair BVA’s board, in particular working closely with Daniel following his appointment as CEO to strengthen and expand the board. I am filled with confidence handing over to a fantastic co-trustee who will continue to drive BVA’s growth and success.”

Daniel Neat, BVA’s Chief Executive, shared his appreciation “Neil has provided thoughtful leadership and unwavering support during his time as Chair, helping to guide BVA through important developments and challenges. His dedication, integrity, and commitment to our work have been deeply valued by both the Board and the staff team. I’m very pleased that Neil will be continuing to serve as a Trustee. The BVA Team and I would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt thanks to Neil for his outstanding service as Chair of our Board of Trustees.”

Francesca joined the Board in 2022, bringing over 15 years of senior leadership experience in Financial Services, with a focus on Risk, Governance, and Compliance. Prior to this, she held roles across IT and Telecoms. Since retiring from paid employment in 2019, Francesca has remained active in the voluntary sector in Basingstoke, including her work with Guide Dogs UK as a guide dog boarder.

Francesca commented “I have worked with the BVA team for three years and continue to be astounded by their commitment to our communities. The breadth and depth of support in and across the borough is so valued by our members. It is a great privilege to be appointed as Chair, and I look forward to continuing working with the team and Board in support of the crucial services we offer.”

Daniel added: “I am delighted to welcome Francesca as our new Chair, who brings a wealth of experience and insight into the voluntary and community sector. I look forward to working closely with Francesca.”

BVA is delighted by Francesca’s appointment, and the opportunity to continue our mission to support and empower the voluntary and community sector across our community.
