Serving Hampshire – Balancing The Budget Consultation

Groups are urged to share their views on the Serving Hampshire – Balancing the Budget Consultation that is running until 11:59pm on Sunday 18 July 2021.

Local authorities are required by law to deliver a balanced budget – which means they cannot spend more than is available.

However, a combination of factors including a growing demand for local services, particularly social care, means that Hampshire County Council continues to face a total budget shortfall of at least £80 million over the next two years (2022/23 and 2023/24).

Therefore, Hampshire County Council are seeking your views on a range of options that may help them to balance the budget for the future. These may include:

  • Introducing and increasing charges for some existing services
  • Lobbying Central Government for legislative change
  • Generating additional income
  • Using the County Councils reserves
  • Reducing and changing services
  • Increasing Council Tax
  • Changing Local Government arrangements in Hampshire.

Groups should consider carefully how any option could impact delivery of their services.
