Do you want to use your knowledge and understanding of life with arthritis to help others? Are you motivated to empower others with the condition to feel supported and live the life they chose?

Across the UK, our community network of peer support volunteers are a vital part in supporting people affected by arthritis. They provide a sense of belonging, unity, and friendship and deliver services and support in their local community.

What you will be doing:

  • Undertaking tasks to support the Peer Support Lead/Organiser volunteer with running a group in your local area or online.
  • Providing a warm welcome and friendly, supportive and informative space for people with arthritis, helping to set up and clear away meeting spaces.
  • Supporting to promote your network and the work of Versus Arthritis in your local area to encourage a greater diversity of participants.
  • Supporting the Lead/Organiser with online admin tasks where needed

This is a broad outline of the typical tasks involved in this role.

On average, volunteers in this role contribute approximately 2-5 hours per month including volunteer support and networking events.

What skills do I need?

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is over the age of 18
  • Has good communication and listening skills especially with people with arthritis.
  • Is caring, sensitive and empathetic to all people regardless of their age, gender, sexual orientation, disability, ethnic origin, faith and culture
  • Preferably digitally competent to support the online admin and engagement required for networks.
  • Is generally reliable and punctual (although we acknowledge that “life happens” and there may be extenuating circumstances and support needs)
  • Is confident, positive and enthusiastic
  • Can volunteer as part of a team
