Basingstoke Mencap run a service called Greenfingers, it’s a horticultural therapy project where people with a learning disability can come a long and be supported whilst enjoying their beautiful surroundings on a large allotment site in a safe and friendly environment.
Mencap are opening their gates 3 days a week Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10am – 3pm, offering a wide range of activities, supporting all abilities. These include learning gardening skills such as growing your own fruit and vegetables to working with their horticultural expert to learn everything there is to know about planting.
The Mencap team sell what they grow at their monthly plant sales on the last Saturday of every month 10am -1pm and offer tea, coffee and freshly baked homemade cakes in our small tearoom.
They also offer NVQ 1 for those who would like to gain a qualification in horticulture, please speak to their Manager Tatu Delaney for more details when you go for a visit.
